Royal Red maple trees offer solid shade while at the same time providing beautiful dark red to purple foliage color.  The foliage has a glossy sheen to it.  The leaves of the tree are about the size of an adults palm of the hand.  The growth pattern for this variety of maple tree is oval, so you can expect a well-rounded tree form.  Royal Red maple is less susceptible to frost cracks that can occur during the winter.  This tree is heat tolerant and is moderately resistant to drought once it is fully established.  The trunk of this tree is sold and grows straight easily.  Royal Red maple trees make good shade trees.  The dark foliage makes it a great specimen piece to install in your lawn.
