Toro snow blowers are very reliable units that are designed to tackle the heaviest snow.  Toro snow blowers come in single and two stage units.  The difference biggest between the two units is that the single stage is designed for lighter snows.  The two stage unit is designed to remove heavy, compacted and wet snow.  Most Toro snow blowers are able to move snow over 6″ in-depth.  A lot of the single stage snow blower units can not handle much over a foot of snow.  If you are clearing snow on your average sized two car driveway, then most single stage snow blowers will work for your needs.

One of the biggest problems with the single stages is being able to adequately remove snow at the bottom of your driveway.  The snow pushed from the street on to your driveway is generally wet and heavy or at least extremely compacted.  If you encounter large amounts of snow at the end of your drive, it will most likely be necessary to use the snow blower in small sections.  If the clearing path of your snow blower is a foot and a half in width, consider only using about half of that area for snow removal.  It is important to make sure that your paddles are able to move the snow without bogging down.  Not only is bogging down hard on your unit, but chances are that it may cause it to break down.

Two stage Toro snow blowers like the Power Max® 1028 OXE, provide adequate power to tackle snow falls over a foot deep.  Most two stage snow blowers work well with snow over 6″ in-depth.  Small snow falls under 6″ are better left for your single stage unit.
