Proper drainage will reduce water problems in your yard.  Making sure that you have the proper drainage tile set up for the disbursement of water run off is important in making sure that water is removed from the foundation of your building or home.  Most homes and business have down spouts to move water from the foundation out into the lawn areas.  Having down spouts that provide proper drainage will hopefully keep water out of unwanted areas.  If you have down spouts that don’t work like their intended purpose they will cause many headaches.

Proper Drainage

The size of your roof will determine how many down spouts that your property has.  If the number of down spouts is correct, they should be able to handle the amount of water that they are moving without over flowing.  Most residential down spouts come in 3” and 4”.  We recommend using 4” because they have the ability to move more water.  We have seen several projects with 3” down spouts that cannot handle the water load and the result is the down spouts over flow.  Another factor in the success of down spouts is making sure that they are not clogged.  Installing gutter guards or cleaning out your gutters one a year will help with water flow.  If your down spouts are clogged, water will flow over your gutters instead of down your spouts.

Proper Drainage

We recommend installing 4” solid tile extensions to down spouts.  We bury the tiles so that they are not an eye sore and your spouts are eliminated.  If your spouts are not secured, they may blow off during a storm when they are needed the most.  If you bury your tile, it cannot blow away.  We then run the tile out into the lawn area, far enough away from the structure that water will not back flow.  All drain tiles are connected to a bubbler catch box for water disbursement.  Water will fill the box, flow out the top and disperse evenly to the surrounding areas.  Since air is able to reach the bubbler catch box, evaporation will remove the remaining water found in your box.
